Loyalty

Loyalty is such a strange word
With a stranger meaning that’s easily swerved
It’s arranged by columns
Pillars built upon pillars
There’s a standard at work didn’t you know?
For some, this standard starts and finishes with one
For others it’s a country or a company
A club or Society
A group of friends or just your family
Hardly a mention of collective humanity
Oh the calamity of loyalties Tragedy
Especially when the pressure is steeped upon
The pillars crack and loyalty is gone
When loyalty ceases to exist
Then who is left for us to rely on
Who will pick up the pieces?
Who will save this species?
Who I ask is loyal to me?
Loyalty is as important as can be
When it’s applied to all of humanity
This is the thing that will bring you sanity
This sanity is not mere vanity
This thing will set you free.
